Filmed on Friday 24th May 2013.  The children of St Ethelbert’s Catholic Primary school reenacted the story of The Gospel Coming to Ramsgate, written and directed by Mrs Butchard-Thursten.

Copies were sent to the Queen and the Pope in Rome.

Thank you to all the parents that made costumes, Mr Bishop for the Music, David Fry for the scenery. Finally Thank you to all our wonderful children for making this a special memory for everyone.

Altar Servers

After taking their first Communion many of our boys, volunteer to serve as Alter Servers within the Parish.

Sodality of Our Lady

A number of our girls who have made their First Communion volunteer to join the Sodality of Our Lady group. Serving the Parish and taking a fuller part in parish life by

• Assisting before mass begins

• Collecting hymn books, mass cards etc., at the end of mass

• Helping at children’s liturgy

• Bringing up the Offertory gifts

• Fundraising for our chosen charity

The children had the opportunity to ask him questions. Why do you wear bright red? His reply was that it is scarlet – the colour of the blood of the Holy Saints. They asked him about his job and if he had voted for Pope Francis. He gave all the children and the staff a blessing. The school was very pleased that so many of the children served for the Cardinal at Mass that evening. Fr Marcus Our Parish Priest Fr Marcus Holden. He was ordained in 2005 after six years of seminary at the Venerable English College in Rome. He became parish priest of Ramsgate and Minster in 2010 after serving as assistant priest in Balham (2005-2008) and Royal Tunbridge Wells (2008-2010). He holds several academic degrees in theology including a Masters from Oxford University and a Licentiate from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Among his many publications are the Evangelium Course and the Saints of the English Calendar. He is co-founder of the Evangelium Project and the British Confraternity of Catholic Clergy and regularly works with the media on behalf of the Catholic Church and in the production of documentary films on faith and religion. He is a popular speaker and lecturers at the Maryvale Institute in the MA Apologetics course.

Throughout the Year, the school has many opportunities to enhance the Catholic Life of the school.

Special whole school masses to start each term, for holy days and school celebrations

A class go to mass every Tuesday

A class have afternoon prayers with father Marcus every Tuesday

Child-friendly confession for years 4, 5 and 6 in Advent and for years 3, 4, 5 and 6 in Lent

We share The Word on Wednesday with our families

Rosary said in October and may lunchtimes

Rosaries are given to every child

Saint Francis Crucifixes are given to every reception child

Holy Bibles are given to all year 6 pupils as a leaving present and memento of their time at Saint Ethelbert’s catholic primary school

All the cost of these initiatives are split equally between the parish, the ptfa of the school and the school.
